Glazing
At Valdi we like to give our customers choice, however if you don't understand what you are choosing it can seem a little daunting. Folding sliding doors in particular have large panels of glass which is really what we all want... lots of light and that feeling of the outside coming in. However sometimes a room maybe south facing and that bright airy space takes on the feeling of an overly hot green house. That is why we try where ever possible to give you the option of selecting the glass you want and need.
Standard Glass
We use toughened double glazed units as they offer the best all round performance.
The glass is nearly always Saint Gobain Glass who are world leaders in glass
manufacture. Using toughened units offers customers a virtually tint free glass
with each piece being only 4mm thick. The cavity is filled with argon gas creating
an excellent overall U value of no higher than 1.2U
Using toughened glass also reduces the weight of the doors and in doing so puts less stress on the hinges and runners and so in turn reducing the need for maintenance in years to come. In some cases we provide doors with laminated glass.

Toughened Glass vs. Laminated Glass
Toughened glass can be up to five times stronger than ordinary glass which means that it has to be hit much harder in order to break, also when it does break it does so into lots of small pieces which are much less likely to cause injury.
Laminated glass has the same strength as ordinary glass but it consists of two pieces of glass with a sandwich of plastic inner layer. If the glass does get broken this inner layer holds the glass in place so there is no hole left in the window for an intruder to get in through.
Solar Reflective Glass
For areas of extreme exposure to sunlight it can be prudent to consider using solar reflective glass. Quite simply a coating is applied to glazing reducing the transmittance of heat through the glass and into the room. This is very effective and is not as expensive as some companies may lead you to believe.
Integral Blinds
For Customers who want more privacy or a reduction in sunlight then integral blinds can be installed. The Venetian style blinds are fitted directly into the cavity between the two panes of glass, meaning no more cleaning of dusty blinds. Typically controlled by a magnet on the face of the glass, you simply slide the blinds up and down and also adjust the angle to how much sunlight/visibility you may need. These are made to order and can increase delivery times by up to 4 weeks.
